BIOGRAPHY

Barbara Vera

French/Spanish

Barbara Vera was born in Maracaibo, Venezuela. In her home country, she received her Bachelor's Degree in Teaching Foreign Language and started a career teaching English and French as a Second Language. She had the opportunity to work in different settings in elementary, middle and high school, language institutes, and teaching private lessons with different groups of people and backgrounds (kids, teenagers and adults). In 2014, she was the first Venezuela elected to participate in the Fulbright Language Teaching Assistant Program, which allowed her to travel to the United States and work as a Spanish Teaching Assistant at the University of Evansville in Evansville, Indiana. During this time, she realized she loved teaching her native language so she determined herself to further her career in the U.S as a Spanish teacher. In 2018, she received her Master's Degree in Teaching Spanish from Northern Arizona University, where she also had the opportunity to be a Graduate Assistant and teach Spanish to lower division classes. She taught Spanish in a Dual Immersion Program for 7 months in Phoenix, Arizona and she is currently teaching ESL classes to immigrants in the evenings.

Barbara is married and has a beautiful 3 year old daughter. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family, reading books, trying new restaurants, visiting places and watching movies. She is grateful for the opportunity to work at Real Salt Lake Academy and she looks forward to sharing her passion for language and culture to her students.
